Transplanting and Installing Large Trees

Why wait decades for a mature landscape?
Give your new landscape development a more distinctive, finished look with mature, fully developed trees.

Replace a dead or dying tree with one that compliments your existing landscape.

Preserve a historic or rare tree by moving it to a new location instead of destroying it.

We can custom box and relocate specimen trees.

Transplanting a large treeUsing a spade to relocate trees causes the least amount of stress on the tree, thus allowing for a greater chance at survival. Atlas has one of the largest tree spades on the west coast. We can accomodate trees with a trunk measurement of up to 10" in diameter with minimal damage to branches and root systems. With the hydraulic spade system, we have the ability to dig a root ball up to 90" in diameter and 65 inches deep. By keeping a large portion of the root ball intact, the tree can quickly re-establish itself in its new location.

Using a spade to move a large treeSome factors that need to be considered before transplanting any tree (large or small) are:
  • Health and condition of the tree.

  • Soil condition - of the existing location and the location the tree is being moved to.

  • Accessibilty - can the tree be reached by the equipment? Must be level ground, no slopes or embankments.
