Prepare for Winter Storms.
Have your trees thinned. Because of last years rains, there was more growth than usual this summer. Overgrown trees are prime targets for winter wind damage.
Check Tree Stability.
If you have young trees staked, check their stability. Can you remove the supports yet? If not, retie them to avoid girdling the trunk.
Transplant Trees And Shrubs.
Fall is always the best season to transplant. The tree is getting ready for hibernation and will undergo less shock to its system. It also allows the tree time to reestablish itself before the new growth cycle (spring).
Plant NEW Trees And Shrubs.
If you can transplant, you can certainly plant at this time as well!!
Mulch, Again.
Renewing your mulch layer is a constant process. You may see this tip listed here every season!!!!
Recycle Those Fallen Leaves.
You can use leaves as mulch or compost them for a great (inexpensive) soil amendment.
Added incentive: composting recycles yardwaste, reduces trash volume, and reduces the use of our landfills. (They say the majority of landfills will be full by the year 2000 - yikes!!!)
Watch A Football Game (or two).
Alright, this has nothing to do with your trees, but if you need an excuse, you can say your Arborist told you to!
